In order to identify the sword someone would need some more discription. Is the blade marked or engraved? How thick is the blade. Does it look like it was nickel or chrome plated. Are the guard and handle fittings made of a soft metal, are they cast.

My first wild-assed-guess is that it might be a fraternal organization sword. There were/are groups like the Masons and the Knights Templars, etc that would have swords for formal occasions. They would often have thin double-edged blades. I've got one that has a very springy thin blade with fancy plating on the blade. Look on the blade for identifying marks.

Most military swords of the last 150 years would be more of a single-edged saber design.

Knights of Columbus use a sword a lot like that, I believe. The same basic design, white handle, and a helmet with a big faceguard for a pommel. For some reason I'm thinking 28" is longer than the ones I've seen, though. And I don't know nuthin' bout the markings. Hope that helped.

Sounds like some kind of fraternal throphy or ceremonial sword. Anyway Gwinny's got it right its a 19th century sword from something like the Knights of Columbus or the Masons. The eye make think is a Mason's sword.

It would help if you could show us a picture, or let us know if there are any markings. Most of these usually sell for $100-150. If it is a GAR (Grand Army of the Republic), or if the presentation is to a notable person, the price may be higher.

I agree with everyone about it probably being ceremonial sword.Sounds like a knights of columbus sword like I used to have.My handle was made of real ivory, Knights helmet for a pommel, silver cross hilt, engraved blade, unsharpened dagger style .The figure 100.00 to 150.00 dollars is correct from what I recall.Totally a non-combat sword.

There will be pictures posted soon of this sword The blade is not a flimsy blade its a very strong blade unsharpened No markings to speak of No finish on blade its plain steel, Handle is real ivory Thanks for all your help Check out the pic`s when posted then maybe someone will know more by lookin at it !

I'd bet my bottom dollar that that is a Knights of Pythias sword. My dad's a member of that outfit, and had one a ;ot ;ike it at one time. Hope that helps.

It's not Knights of Columbus. Granted the KofC were founded in 1889, but the 4th degree of the KofC (the ones with the swords) was not formed until this century. Also, it doesn't look like that one. (I'm a 4th degree member).

I APPRECIATE ALL THE HELP GUY`S IM STUMPED EVERYONE THAT HAS POSTED GAVE ME A LITTLE INFO ON THE SWORD JUST WISH I COULD REALLY NARROW IT DOWN TO WHAT IT IS...THANKS AGAIN
