My brother recently picked up a Chive. I immediately liked this knife though I know it's nothing new.

However I started thinking that it's just a tad too small for me (I'll be using for a keychain EDC). So I started looking at the Scallion, which I also like. My only gripe is the blade design which I don't fancy as it is a double curve, I prefer straighter blades.

I just stumbled on the SOG Flash I, which on specs is the perfect size and light weight.

Unfortunately I live in a city without a SOG dealer. Just hoping to get some advice here.

i personally wouldn't put anything bigger than a Chive on a keychain. so if you want bigger, you should wear it in your pocket or in your coat-pocket

if you must put something bigger on your keychain perse, then why not buy another Kershaw, except the scallion. or take a drive to another city for that sog flash........or order one online.

good luck

Well, Normally I'd agree but there really is very little difference in closed length between the Chive and the Flash, only 3/8". I don't think that should be significant.

If you want SOG, buy it - you can use some online dealer. I personally can recommend newgraham.com (TGBU subforum will provide references on sellers/dealers)

Is there something against the Leek? It's a tad longer, but the blade is straight and the normal version is so thin and light it mostly makes up for the extra length.

Already have a Leek. I like this quite a bit but it's just too long for EDC.

I think it is all about lock-up. Kershaw uses a frame lock with Speed-Safe. SOG uses a metel bar that wont bend like a frame lock to lock it up and S.A.T. opens with little pressure.

Actually I was just reading about this. I think you are right. I want the ease of the frame lock on the Kershaw. I have no experience with the SOG, is it easy and one handed release? Doesn't do me much good to have an AO if closing it requires both hands.

i'd say stick to the Kershaw Onions... they come in all shapes and sizes, though i specifically like the curves. the Leek seems medium-sized rather than too long for edcing, though of course for a keychain the Chive should be perfect. how about the Mini Mojo with the newer studlock?

The SOG is very easy to close with one hand, but every SOG that I've bought with the SAT has required a little tweaking to get the bladeplay to tolerable levels... I love the Kershaws... I dont think you can go wrong with either..
