I need help with Camillus 154 EDC conversion, would like to have thumb stud removed & enlarge the hole become a thumb hole.

I was thinking about a half-moon shape, with the straight edge following along the top edge of the blade, if that makes any sense.

I wonder if this can be done without loosing the temper & how much something like this would cost.

Thanks in advance,

Hi there,

I've been thinking about doing a similar thing with some knives - the best solution I could find other than doing it by hand, is to use a water jet cutter. Since we're talking about a high pressure jet, there is no heat damage, and it's pretty accurate. Hardened steel is no problem in the thickness of an EDC.

They do need to be programmed up tho (like a CNC machine) - in New Zealand, a job like this would cost me around $USD30 to do.

Good luck,
Cheers from NZ,
Daniel.

Thanks, I will have to research to find a company that could handle it.

Any machinists out there with other ideas?

Not to be a smart pants, but you could try the trusty old Dremel
tool and work REAL slow so as not to build heat. Draw a pattern
and work slowly and it should come out OK. The worst thing
that can happen is you .....might....need to buy a new blade.

Good luck, mate
