Need help with Camillus 154CM talon....

First off let me say that the Talon in 154CM is one darn fine knife (even whether or not you take into account the great bargain price)! The blade and handle shapes make this one of the best general utility knives (both production and custom) I have had the pleasure of owning.

However, I have one small issue regarding the knife I have yet to fix. The knife (specifically the area between the scales and the tang) has a habit of leaving oil/grease stains on anything it touches. My hand starts to get quite greasy and slick after a bit of usage, and though I cleaned off the knife several times and wiped up the offending area, the oil keeps seeping out. I also tried removing the scales and washing the tang and the scales and replacing the default oil with something a little more viscous and in less quantity, and though it helped a little, my hands still get a bit more greasy than I would like (no it's not my hand that is causing the problem, I checked on other knives already .

Maybe the area I live in has had a lower atmospheric pressure allowing the oil to more likely seep through. Maybe I tightened the screws too much when re-attaching the scales. Maybe I need to just remove all the oil in betwteen the scales all-together (would rust between the tang/scales be an issue?).

Can anyone make some recommendations on how I can alleviate this issue?
Thanks in advance.

Felix

Felix, would suggest you mention this in the Camillus forum. Will and the others will help you out with this.

As an aside, I have one 154CM Talon and have not experienced the problem you mentioned. Not certain if any other 154CM Talon owners have experienced what you've experienced.

Update: I now see you've done this. Good luck.

Well not sure if it helps, but on my Nimravious in M2 I had a similar problem. I think I used to much oil in there. The fix was to remove the handles remove the oil. Place a decent amount of Tuf Glide on the area and wipe with a Marine Sentry Tuf Cloth. I let this dry for about 30 mins, then wiped again with the cloth. I then left for 10 mins, and put the handles back on the knife.

No rust, no oil to move about! Failing that use Militech 1 and heat the area with a hairdryer for about 30 mins. The heat will let the oil bond to the steel. Do this 3-4 times in a week and the knife aught to be just about rust proof for a LONG time!

Hope it helps.
