Hey guys........you've done this thing so many times, and I'm sure you'll help me out here too!

I am going to buy a knife for my brother (since I broke his :o by trying to take it apart ;) ) I am on a budget here, and I've narrowed it down to these choises:

- Spidy Native 3 ( VG10 steel......would cost me 72 euro)
- SOG Flash 1 (Aus 8 ........costs 69 euro)
- Kershaw Vapor 1 (aus 6A............costs 62 euro)
- CRKT M16 (aus 8.........costs 80 euro)
- Gerber AR300 ("stainless steel"..........costs 68 euro)
- CRKT Crawford Kasper folder (aus 6M.........costs 83 euro)
- CRKT Lightfoot M1 (aus 8............costs 80 euro)
- Buck mayo Northshore (420HC ............would cost 94 euro)

(all can be seen on: www.gatherwood.com)

So: My brother would like a though knife...one that can take a serious beating.... Wich one would be best suited for him then? The steel isn't that important(otherwise I would just get him the native3)
I am goin to order from that website, so these are the prices...wich one would offer the best value for the money here?

Help me out here guys....I have to order sight-unseen so I would really appreciate some input,

Davy

If toughness is your primary concern you'll probably be best served by the CRKT M1. Those things are stout and CRKT's AUS-8 isn't bad at all. Good luck. :)

If I had to pick a knife from that list it would be the lightfoot - but I would buy my brother a calypso jr. or a 556

Davy, I usually carry more expensive, heavy-duty knives, but the only one on your list that I own is the Native III. It's the best Native that Spyderco has come out with, and I like all of them! it is a tough knife and a great cutter. It is also unobtrusive compared to some of the others, which doesn't hurt. It has an unbeatable grip.

None of the knives you list is a bad choice, though. AUS 8 is good steel although VG-10 is the best of them.

Well, I'd also look at the spydeco's. I have a delica that I have used damn hard and its still one of my best performing knives.

I'd like to get a CRKT in the future though....

The Native beats the CKRT M16 hands down that's for sure. maybe not in sexiness but as a heavy user it's hard to fault. But be carefull to define what kind of user he is. If the knife is just for occasional use and knifesturbation then the others may have more bells and whistles and be more appealing aesthetically.

I'm starting to make a destinction between EDC (every day carry) and ADU (all day use) nowadays........

many many thanks y'all for the replies!!!

I'm a little embarrased to say that i've already found another way to make it up for my brother........
I've given him "my collection" (Griptilian, 2 Bokers, a cold steel......and some undefined knives) for very little money! So now, I have some cash and I'm going to buy myself a Buck strider :-))..........I've always wanted a tank!

Once again, thanks for the quick replies!

That's great -- trading up all around. The Griptilian is a great knife. I hope he really likes it. No argument about the Strider, either. Just make sure you get one you can use, not a spectacular model you won't carry as much.
