I have one of the wooden wedge shaped countertop display cases from the 1970's. The sliding tray holds 18 folding knives. From the picture in a 3/77 dealer brochure and the shape of the spaces, I have identified 16 of the knives. They are 301, 303, 305, 307, 309, 311, 313, 315, 317, 319, 321, 110, 112, 501, 503 and 505. One of the remaining two spaces should hold either a 506 or a 500. Any ideas on which one is more appropriate? The final space is a mystery since it is shaped and a California Toothpick fits perfectly. Did Buck sell a similar knife in the 70's? Can't post pictures here but could email one to anyone interested.

I would say the 500 is the one to go with the other 500 series knives but I have no idea what would fit in the other spot.

Lets see if we can figure this one out. I looked at my 3/77 catalogue and can see why it is confusing. There are some empty slots in the display shown. One from the 1978-79 time frame helps. The three knives that fit the slots above the 110/112, which are in the middle, are the 500, 501, and 503, with the 500 on the far right. The far left side of the display has the knives oriented diferently and the top knife is the 506, then 505. Under them is the 305, 309, 303, 301, 307.
On the far right side of the display, from top to bottom is the 321, 319, 313, 311, 315, 317.
See if that all fits.
Take care,

Thank you Joe and Dennis for the help. The 500 was the common sense choice. The fit is snug and I think the extra cutout tail on the space is for slipping a finger under the bolster to lift the knife out. Now begins the hunt for a maroon micarta 500.
