CAN YOU WELD CROMOLY WITH A MIG WELDER, OR MUST YOU USE A TIG. I WANT TO WELD THIN WALL TUBING, (2" O.D. x .065 WALL.).

I'm sure you could use a MIG to do what you want. The only thing you may have a problem with is getting a clean, even weld with the MIG. Personaly, I like the control of a TIG better, but that will varry between each welder and what he is working with.

Also, when you go to weld on that thin steel, use the lowest arc temp you can get away with so you reduce the risk of blow-out.

Good luck!! Chris S

I work at a race car builders shop and what he told me is you can weld chrome moly with a MIG, but's it's very difficult and chances are you won't like the results. MIG's are for mild steel and stainless steels, like springs or car frames. If your going to work Chrome Moly a TIG is the way to go. We welded a 9" nodular into a top fueler this weekend, used a water cooled TIG...very awesome, welded up an aluminum block also
