Need Help with CS Trail Master Carbon V

Can Someone give me an idea as to why the difference in these two Trail Masters, Thanks in advance.

The top one is .320 on the thickness and the bottom .300

As well as different steel stock available from the foundry, as well.

one has a kydex and one has a leather sheath?
i got the bottom one with a leather sheath.

The difference in dates is probably quite big so there have been design tweaks, steel source changes etc - the bottom one is pretty old design >10 years IIRC, versus the more common "big choil" Trailmaster.
