I guess I should know, but I don't. When did Buck start putting date stamps on their fixed blades? I was wondering what the apprx. age of these two.

Plumber, Your knives could be mfg. in 1981 but I'd need to see the pommel .
Buck started using date stamps on their fixed blades in 1986 . Prior to that they used the spacers or sheath to date them . DM

Plumber, Thanks . Great pictures . Those are mfg. 1981-86 and have 425M steel .
If they have two micarta spacers in the pommel they are 1981 mfg. and could be either 440C or 425M . DM

Great info DM, you guys never cease to amaze me with the info you have, either in notes or top of head.

BTW, knice nives Plum....new to your collection?

Nice score on those. The 119 sheath is one of my favorite "snoopy" versions...no plastic insert,so no rattle while you walk, and the swivel on the belt loop helps in thick brush or getting in or out of the truck.

Imafritz, Thank you .
I agree with Scott . The swivel sheaths are useful and my 119 fits snug in the snoopy . No rattle . Whereas my 120 has some rattle in the flap over . DM

The swivel sheath has been associated with 1981 in the 120, but I don't know if that carries over to the 119 a little or at all.

Sheaths are tough to figure......and worse, they can move around from knife to knife without telling us.

Thanks for the info David. There's just one spacer in the pommels so they are '82 to '85? If they had a second spacer in the pommels would they also have a spacer on the handle side of the guard? I have a NIB 105 that has four spacers.

Yep, they were in such nice shape, I couldn't resist.

But then, I have very little resistance to anything.:o

Would my 105 be a 1981 model? It has two spacers in the pommel also.

Plumb it should be between 1972/1980 with a 440C blade. In 1981 they went to one micarta spacer at the gaurd, then to one at the pomel.

Well, I think a 72 would be stamped upside down......so it's actually 73 to 80, at least from my notes.

:)

Also, to me, that lighter stamp may indicate that it is a bit more toward 80 than 73......just a hunch.

From what I understand not all 1972 are stamped upside down, but if you get one stamped upside down then you know that it is a 1972.

Plumber, According to the handouts from Joe H. seminar at the 20 yr. reunion on the 100 series your 105 fits exactly into Group 2 1973-80 (440C blade). Then BG, your correct, according to the same sheet a up right stamp is 1973 . Plumber on your #10 post your first sentence is correct 1982-85 (some bleed overs)(425 steel) . Your second question is, yes for (1973-80). If is has two micarta spacers in the pommel it will have two micarta spacers in the finger guard of Group 2 . However, the 1981 knives do NOT do this . One micarta spacer in the guard and two in the pommel Group 3 (440C or 425 steel). Hope this clears up somethings as this is confusing . DM

Or, somebody stamped it upside down just for fun?

:)

I don't doubt you, I4......I never could believe that (on many issues) they started doing things a different way precisely at 8 a.m. on the first workday after January 1.

Thanks David. It started out clear as mud, but it's beginning to sink in some. :)

You are welcome Plumb. BG42 I was thinking that at the twenty they said it was a mid year change, because of the new displays at that time.
