Picked up two of these, new in boxes.

I cannot find anything on Buck's web site about this exact knife - Buck Auto #838 2025 Limited Edition.

The 838 is there, but I don't find one in this exact handle finish. It also seems that the 838 on Buck's site has a different blade shape and handle shape as compared to this one.

Does the 2025 Limited Edition make it any scarcer or more desirable? Anyone know how many were made?

From where here did you get them? I'd like to see the part number on the box. It looks like the carbon fiber version.

Modern Buck boxes, but no labels on them at all. Got them at a gun show.
That is suspicious. I know those were done in 2024. 0838CFSLE. I am inclined to say they are either fake or a special run at Buck factory store. The blade markings bother me but I am not an 838 expert. If no one else answers, you could contact Buck directly.

After looking at AliExpress, I am inclined to say they are fake but ask Buck or forget about what I say if someone else knows better. Look for BK838. The blade is just like that on their "Wolf" design. Even says 2025 Limited Edition. But I didn't see the exact one you have. But the AliExpress ones have that goofy. date code. Did the gun show guy have older Bucks too or was it all modern stuff and a lot of Chinese stuff? The AliExpess ones are under $40. The 2024 carbon fiber from Buck are like $300. How much did you pay? I hope I am wrong!

I don't know anything about this model, but am suspicious about the light colored markings.
Buck markings are usually black and these look too light like a marking that has worn or faded from use.

There are a few differences between that knife and the photos of the Deploy on Buck's web site and other legitimate knife shops. As you stated, the blade shape is wrong and the handle is different. Also, the official Buck photos show an anvil on the blade pivot on the left side of the knife. These differences along with the date code issue lead me to believe it is counterfeit. The plus symbol on the date code looks odd. It doesn't look wide enough. Hopefully you can get your money back.

The knife you have looks like the 2021 898 legacy knife. Major differences on yours is an incorrect model number, an unrecognizable date code, and the never-released "2025 Limited Edition" billboard (898 discontinued). The best-case scenario is that it is a genuine 898, but if it is legit, why would they go through the hassle to make it something else?
