I'm going to buy some 1/4 by 3" firesteel and put some of my own handles on them. I'm either going to use wooden dowel rods or I have some Micarta. The question is what glue to use? Contact glue? Monster glue? Elmers? Liquid nails? 100% silicone?

I use two part Loc Tite epoxy when I glue them to the hardwood handles. Rough up the part of the rod you are gluing with a saw so it holds better and you should have no problems.

+1 on the 2 part epoxy. Dowel rods suck, they are usually not a very nice looking wood. If your going to bother making them, use something nice; Red Oak, Iron Wood, Micarta, bone, Antler...
I use a hack saw and cut a couple of grooves on the end that gets glued into the handle.

I had the same problem and decided on Marine Epoxy from the local hardware store. The reason, it was on sale and it worked just fine. Just rough sand the end of the fire steel for the epoxy to grip. I handled mine with Rock Maple and Mahogany with brass tubing for the eyelet. The wood was scrap from the garage. They turned out OK and are still going strong. Good Luck.

Thanks everyone. I love this place. You all are like my father who passed away. He always had the answer just like you guys.

Storl how ironic...the firesteel will be coming from you next week when I order it!
Also, I wish you sold Photons.
