need help with geometry of a blade

I picked up a new to me blade and found that the blade, when looking down onto the spine, the blade seems to be ground differently on the two sides. At where the handle scales end, the blade looks crooked.

Looking down on the blade, there is definitely more steel on the left side. However it is only at the top by the spine, making the angle much steeper, and the actual cutting edge Seem off to the right.

How do I go about evening out the grind? I'm worried I will hurt it more than help without a bit of guidance.
