It's my Dad's birthday and I was thinking of getting im a new knife. He had a old buck stockman which, instead of the sheepsfoot blade, had a awl (or leather punch)on it. He lost it up in the woods when he was hunting in the mid eighties.

Well, I found out the buck is discontinued but boker/cinch has one. I found it on a few different sites for between 40 to 60 dollars. Here it is:

What do you think? Think it would make a good gift?

Has anyone had any experiance with cinch knives? I never handled one. And, if there ok, is it worth loosing the sheepsfoot blade for a awl (I know that personal preferance but anyway).

i havn't had a cinch knife but I've had bokers and they are pretty good stuff..one of my favorite knives ever is a vic farmer which has an awl in lieu of the typical sak small blade and I never missed it the awl is real handy...good luck

It's a good looking knife, I have owned near a dozen bokers, and with me at least the quality has been hit or miss, I wouldn't hesitate buying in person or from a place that would check the knife out for me,but I don't trust them enough to order blindly. As RR said the vic farmer is a great knife, one of the brands that I do trust enough to order with out worrying if I will get a dud. Some of the cases in cv are very nice and the Us bucks are still great knives if you decide against the punch. Good luck!

I've not had any problems with a Boker and most I've bought online with no prior handling of the model. I'll ring in though for and of the awl model Alox SAK's, my wife has taken them over to our local jeweler to have them engraved one has my initals the other simply says Dad.

If you're interested in test driving a Boker (not the cinch as I don't own) drop me line.

Or you could cruise E-bay and try to find a Buck just like the one he had. If none on the bay, try the buck Knife Collectors Club over on the Buck forum. They're very nice people and just may be able to help you out.
