I am working on my first sheath and have found many tutorials on stitching. I am making a pouch style sheath and many places show this nicely, but I don't see how to end the stitching. Many say just reverse for two stitches and cut off. Is it really that simple? No special stich or knot other than the overhand knot that ends up inside the stitch hole? I am using nylon whipping twine that is waxed with bees wax and sailmakers needles. I "drilled" my stitch holes with 1/16" sharpened brass rod. It seems to be coming together well enough. I just want to be sure I get a secure stitch.

Thanx for any advise.

One very simple way is to back stitch a couple of stitches and then pull a little loop up on each side and place a very small dot of Elmer's Glue-All white glue on each loop and then pull them down tight and cut off flush. Should last a lifetime or until hell freezes over whichever comes first.

Fantastic! Thanx, Paul. What I did to secure the stitching for the belt loop is to backstitch once and put an extra twist in the sitch with a drop of CA, cut flush and ran a flame quickly over it to melt the wax without charring the leather. I will do the same for the side seam, but maybe without the extra twist. Good to know I wasn't too far off in my own thinking as I have never done any kind of leather work before.
