Could someone give me some direction on the following piece, including any info on the maker, whether or not it is an HI import, and any thoughts on value? Furniture appears to be brass and carved buffalo horn. Looks unused and undamaged except for a small split at the top of the mouth/opening of the leather sheath. Includes karda and chakma, also horn-handled. Photos of the knife below.

Thank you in advance for any help,
Will

PHOTOS REMOVED--KNIFE IS NOW SOLD. THANKS TO ALL.

Looks to be an older HI Bura made AK villager with horn handle. very nice piece. as for value, I would suggest looking on the fourm at some of the dod's to get a basic idea.

Hi Will!

Definitely an HI piece by Master Kami Bura (the crescent moon).

Check this thread: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5370451&postcount=16

That's very helplful, Abaniko--thank you. Can you tell me anything else about it from these photos?

Thanks to pugs75, also.

Could someone give me a sense of what a fair asking price would be? I received it in a trade about two years ago as I recall, and I'd like to move it along to someone who can use it. I realize this is not a for sale venue, but before posting it for sale I thought I should have some idea of fair market value.

Thanks again,
Will

More or less than $75, including shipping in continental US?

Opinions/suggestions welcome.

Thanks again,
Will

75 to 80 would be a fair price, the 150 new includes HI's warranty which is worth a lot, but 75 to 80 would be fair like I said, whether you'll get it is another matter.

Sounds about spot on to me:)

While HI khuks retain a good deal of value even when used, they don't tend to increase in value unless the collector is very keen on a particular kami and a particular time period.

Look at it, it appears (and this is never 100% foolproof) that Bura's mark is in English (where they are now down in the native font to give the blades a more authentic look), and it is missing the "U.B." symbol which means it was probably made prior to Uncle Bill Martino's passing. It's at least 5 years old, but doesn't date back to an earlier shop.

75-85 dollars seems like a great deal. The person does not get the lifetime warranty on the blade, but generally if an AK is going to break it usually does so almost right out of the box due to a boo-boo on the heat treat. Whoever gets it is going to probably get a knife that has TWO lifetimes of hard labor left in it:thumbup:

i'd say $95 shipped for an older piece like that, in very good condition, would make a lot of people very happy. that's 18 inches of khukri there. the market is, what the market is though. could be more. could be less. me? i wouldn't sell for less. those older pieces are far too lovely imho.

It's a Bura AK, but it's not a villager. Looks like a standard polished model that someone cleaned with some Scotch-Brite or something.
