I have started a small collection of Spyderco balisong knives. Recently, I saw a Jiansong listed on a reputable consignment site. While it is not exactly a balisong, I jumped on it without doing much research. My potential mistake.

As far as I know now, the Jiansong C191 has only one production version with CPM C30V steel. The one I received is CTS HXP steel. As this knife is not sold in the US market, I could not find much discussion about it.

Does anyone has any insight on this CTS HXP variation? Any info is highly appreciated. 1000009480.png

Interesting. Never had much interest in this model due to all the restrictions. It’s odd to me that they sold one a month ago for a much higher price.

There was a member from Europe selling one for $315 NIB a few days ago. By the time I tried to figure out if there was any issues importing it to the US, it was sold. So I settled for this one in excellent condition without box. But than realize it is not the steel that I was aware of.....

Micheal Janich is actually the designer of the Janisong? I will definitely reach out to him.

Janich also designed the Ronin/Yojimbo.

And, as noted above, you'll find him more active on the "official" Spyderco Forum than here.
