Hey guys, I'm a junior in highschool, and we have this huge project due in a few days. The project... boldly named "the junior project" decideds wether I pass my junior year or not. As you can imagine, this is VERY important. One of the things I need to do is print borders on my pages to make them look nice, but it seems like word is trying to prevent me from doing that!

Whenever I apply any border, and click print, it gives me a message "The page borders of section 1 are set outside the printable are of the page. Do you want to continue?" If I click yes the page prints perfectly, except the bottom border is screwed up.

I've checked the margin settins and everything, and it is all at the default settings. Can someone PLEASE help me with this problem before I kill myself?! Thank you!

Check what page size you are using in the page setup section in the File menu.

Check the printer properties and have a look at what page size it thinks it has.

Check what paper you actually have in the printer.

Check that these are all the same.

When you print next time, use the print with preview option.

That's a start.

Mine gives that message. Under the printer properties tab, there's a check box for "maximize printable area." Check that it it solves the problem. But, even with that set, you can't print all the way to the edge of the paper. That check box will let you get to within about 1/10th of an inch.

page setup size = letter
printer setup size = letter
actual paper size = 8.5 x 11 (letter)

Where is the printer properties tab located? In word itself or my actual printers properties int he control panel?

You can get to it from control panel. You can also get to it from inside Word. When you click on File...Print you should get a window where you can select the printer. There should be a Properties button. Click on that and hunt around there.

Also, go to Page Setup and find the Margins tab. Set all the margins to 0 (Zero).

I get that error message all the time here at work. Try this:
Go into "page set up" and under "paper source" select whatever tray on your printer you want to pull paper from -- this is undoubtedly the default setting, but do it anyway. Close that, click on "print" and then click on "properties" and make sure that your paper source agrees with what the document's paper source is. Click OK to close that and again on OK to print. Works every time.

Well my math teacher figured it out for me. I have to set the paper size down .3, which effectively raises the border .3 inches up. Thanks for the help
