Need help with my Grandpa's MK2

Recieved a mk2 from my parents who wanted to do something nice and engraved my grandpas mk2 to give to me.. unfortunately the engraver was dumb as a rock and misspelled several things on top of symmetry issues from side to side.. i'd like to refurbish now and re-engrave.. what would be the best way to do this without completely ruining it? also the tip is slightly rounded and i'm assuming came pointed. also are there tips to clean up and maybe rejuivinate the leather?
