Hello,
I have a vintage Schrade switchblade that was originally purchased by my Grandfather (I'm 41). It has a celluloid handle and button release. The info on the end of the blade is:

Schrade
Cut Co
Walden N (I can't read the second letter, so it's either New Hampshire, New Jersey or New Mexico ;) )

On the other side:

US Pats
Dec 21 09
Sept 13 10
June 6 16

I can't seem to find any information on this knife, what it is worth, the exact year it was made, etc.

So if anyone has anything to add, I would greatly appreciate it!

I do have a couple of pictures I can send if anyone is interested.

Thanks so much for your time and assistance!!! :)

Welcome to our forum, Barb. You're in the right place, we have a Schrade switchblade expert on board. He'll check in shortly I am sure. Please do post pics. Any trouble with them, just email them to me. (addess on my profile, just click on my user name)

Your knife was made in Walden, New York

Well now Gran dad left you a good one. Your knife was indeed made in Walden NY after June 6 1916 and before 1946 . The model is a hunters pride ( it originally had a blade etch with those words ) Yours is handled in marine pearl ( celluloid ). I have attached a pic of an onyx celluloid and jigged bone versions as well as one similar to yours in marine pearl . I do not know how your knife functions however it looks to be in excellant ++ condition assuming that it functions correctly locks up tight. seats and fires correctly does not droop ( which can be a problem in older automatics or older anything for that matter )well then your knife would retail ( which is tough to get but, if ebayed would allow it which it dosen't, would be as much as 800 to 1000 dollars.). A dealer will offer you a hundred or two perhapes 300 . If you need any further info please feel free to email me. lt632ret@frontiernet.net ( first character is a small L not the numeral one ). It is a dandy and very sought after by collectors. A woman with a knife that nice might make a man think about getting married again. LT

WOW! I'm...pleasantly surprised :) Thanks so much for all of your help. You too, Phil!

Of course, keeping it in the family would be a good idea. However, if a serious collector wanted it and I could get 800-1000 for it, I would have to say.............SOLD :) But I guess that's rather tough to do since, from what I understand, it is technically illegal...and can't be shipped anywhere?

There is a dealer here that said "I'd give you $200 for it cuz it's so old" and my intuition told me he knew more than he was letting on, which is what brought me to this forum.

Is it "kosher" to post this knife for sale on this forum?

Again, thanks so much for all of your help, you guys! I do appreciate it! Now I just have to find a forum to find out about my Grandma's 22 Winchester that she bought out of the Sears catalog in the 30's for $3 ;)

LOL! Maybe I ought to hang on to the knife then? ;)

If you email I would make an offer or tell you your best avenues. However it cannot be done on the forum not because it is automatic but because you cannot sell on this venue. Your knowledge of the laws and rules regarding these items is incorrect. I have authored a book on this subject and have had a bill in the NYS legislature to amend these laws so I do have some understanding of the subject. However again simply in respect for the rules of the forum the sale of any item should not be a topic presented through this medium. Looks like I came close to being correct on the dealers offer. It is not the topic or the knife, that you have to worry about being kosher it is the dealers who take advantage and it really irks me, I do not pay retail however I always tell a seller what the actual retail price is and then I tell what I will pay and then they can make up there own mind. That is why I wrote a historical price guide on these items. In conclusion if you want to worry about something being kosher worry about dealers who use the expression OINK VAY as being less than kosher. I hope this helps good luck.

Hey Micheal it was one of those three. Here is a hint I sleep with 2 neutered pussycats. LT
