First off, I think this is the correct forum for this question so hopefully its OK here.

Anyways, I recently purchased a used PlayStation 3. I'm not a big gamer so I mainly got it for its bluray and media capabilities. After playing it a bit I'm starting to really enjoy the gaming aspect of it. I have several games to play to keep myself entertained, but I'm looking for some family type games to play with my wife and 7 year old son. Any suggestions on good family games?

Maybe sports games? FIFA, madden, nba games. I don't know if you could play those with a 7 yr old though. I'd stay away from call of duty if you don't want your kids subject to stupidity yet. How about mortal Kombat? Pretty easy game and nothing worse than what you can put in cable tv. Lego games are pretty cool too. Star Wars, Indiana jones, many super heroes, all kinds of cool Lego games that will entertain you and challenge but not be too difficult for them. Lego games are pretty cheap if you get them used also. NASCAR! I can't believe I forgot about it! My dad, brother and I used to play NASCAR games all time. If you don't like NASCAR games I don't what else to tell you. Cheap, hilarious, easy to play.

My kid (7 years old) loves hunting and fishing games, and WWII military games (Call of Duty, Medal of Honor). Although these aren't popular with Wife...
The active sports games are a big hit on the Wii - tennis, boxing, etc.
If Star Wars Battlefront is available for the PS3, no game at our house gets played more than that one! It's worth getting a PS2 just to play it Battlefront II.

My son was and is a dedicated gamer. In fact, he went to college to learn video game design and works for a company that makes education tool\games for students. He always loved the cartoon racing games. Take a look at Sega All Stars Racing (not exact title). It has a bunch of cartoon characters that race in carts, kind of like MarioKart.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

Sky landers, rockband, little big planet

My son has Skylanders for his 3DS and loves it. Love to get it for the PS3 at some point but it looks like it could cost me a lot of money lol. Hopefully going to get Little Big Planet soon.

We have FIFA and Madden but he struggles with those a little bit. Don't know if youve seen a Mortal Kombat game lately, but the one I have for PS3 is WAY worse than cable television lol. Im trying to keep him away from scantily clad women covered in blood, ripping organs out. I did pick up a Lego Batman game that he is now obsessed with. Thank you for your suggestions.

Waiting to find a good deal on a fishing game, I think he will enjoy that too.

I think we have the game we are talking about. It has Sonic and some other dudes and they race around and stuff. He likes it, but those types of games have never been my cup of tea.

I wish I could help out, but I haven't been much of a gamer. I had a PS3 for exactly one day before I had to take it back to the store I got it from. I couldn't figure the darn thing out.

Someone at the Exchange listed a whole pile of PS2 hunting and fishing games that I picked up for cheap. Maybe keep your eyes open in there for PS3 stuff.

Any of the Cabela's titles are well made.
