Need help with steel source and micarta source....

Good Day,

I am trying to find 5160 in 1/4" x 3" and have run into a brick wall, Admiral has that in 1095, but that has too much carbon.

I am also trying to find dark brown Micarta, like Dozier and AG Russell use, Texas has light brown but no dark......

Try Sheffeild Knifemakers Supply for the micarta. Dont just go by the catalogue, call them.

Would 1075 work for you? IF so, try Jantz, i know they have it in 2" x 1/4".

If you cant find any micarta, email me. I may be able to get some, they use some that is a medium brown for "washers" in drilling rigs.

dont buy steel from knifemaker supply shops!
Find a truck spring shop in town and buy a bar(about 22ft will cost about $25)Sometimes they'll even give you the end cuts off the bars cause they're too short for spring use
 
Now, if i only had a truck spring shop in town!! Closes one to me is New Orleans, but i may have to give it a try. Can they tell you what exactly you are getting in the way of steel? Not all springs are the same.

I found 5160, at a spring company here in town, I had called them before for 1095, and forgot to ask about 5160.

Called them up and they are cheap.

1/4 x 3 x 18 for $8

Perfect.

Matt, I have found natural brown, slightly darker than tan, but I am looking for a dark brown, can you help?
