I was given a bucket full of old broken and wore out industrial milling machine bits.Does anybody have a clue as to what types of steel these are?
I want to add this into some Damascus mixes.
I know DON'T put the carbide cutter pieces into the mix....:D

Hi Bruce, you could have just about anything in there. I'd get the spark chart from www.keenjunk.com/sketchbk/vg81118.htm and throw out what you can't recognize as usable. I use milling cutters of M2, M42 Cobalt, 440C and some mystery HSS if the price is right. Solid carbide is expensive and on the chart. If memory is right, cobalt sparks red and short (not on the chart). Hope this helps.

Thanks,I was thinking that it was just HSS steel and didn't realize that it could be these other steels.I will try and figure it out.
