Recently purchased a Western WW-49 with a thick brass bolster - has Camillus paperwork inside Western box. Bolster has small indentations around edges. Handle/Tang has 3 large rivets. Can someone please help me identify what I have? Thanks in advance for your help. tucknavw

The WW-49 was made after Western was sold to Camillus. All prior to the sale were W-49 only. Yours is a stainless steel model and I believe 440 steel. The WW models do not have a date stamp.

If the box is original it should have a NY address on the bottom of it. The guard your describing sounds like a version that Camillus is known to have offered. The blade markings should look like:
WESTERN
W49 U.S.A.
also WW49 is the stock code Camillus used for the Western bowie knife.
It's always nice to see pictures. hint hint:)

i had once wanted to purchase a camillus 1990's western bowie from a store; but didn't.
i had pick up the massive bowie and upon closer inspection...horror of horror's;
I noticed that the middle rivet had lost one of it's ends...
explains why it was still sitting on the shelf then.

Tucknavw, your knife was made between 1991 to 2007.

Here is a picture of my W-47 with a few Western friends.

yup, that's the same exact western knives red bandana thrown in as a free gift when purchasing the bowie.
understand the earlier deal was packaged with a western knives brass belt buckle.
that's would have been cool.

Ed, great display of some great knives ! of the ones placed horizontally, what model is the 2nd from the bottom ?

The two above the rubber handled Western R16 are Westmarks. The top on is a 702 and the bottom is a 701. Western made three models the 701, 702 and 703. I have never purchased a 703 because of the price and you don't see them often. I do have two 702's and really need to update my picture.

Another picture of my flat ended Westerns and Westmarks. Bottom on is the 701 and above it is one of my 702's.

Ed, Those are beauties, esp. the 701. i don't think i've ever seen one before.
Was "Westmark" a special line of Western's ?
thanks, eh, roland
