I found a western w49 M in a storage unit i have tried to find any info but my search has been in vain the handle is in lade with what appears to be fake turquoise material i have looked at hundreds of photos of this w49 western and olny one matched it but had no info any help is appreciated

It's entirely possible that the handle was a custom job performed by the owner, or someone else other than the manufacturer.

I thought the same thing until i found a picture on line at a auction and it is an exact matched. the description from the auction suggested the same thing you said that it was a custom job to the handle by the owner because they could not find any info on it. the odds would have to be astronomical that two complete strangers would customize there knife the same way using the same color. material and pattern. its entirely possible that i'm wrong but that's why i'm asking for help i would love to know at least when it was made. thanks for taking the time to respond. i'm new to collecting knives i'm into it a year or so and have had some good pick's so any info for a green horn is great thanks again

Not really. Many people make 2 of the same for a father/son or husband/wife or for the kids thing. OK, not so much the husband/wife thing but you know what i mean.

There are people who customize knives specifically to sell them. It wouldn't surprise me that they would customize more than one knife in the same way. There could be a dozen of those exact same knives out in the world.

You might never find out who did your knife.
