A one of a kind collection was stolen. I need help. I know it is a long shot, but maybe someone here can help us.
I finally got a chance to go to Bladesmithing School in Arkansas last week. While I was gone, someone broke into my shop and stole a priceless collection of Bob (Sky) Hajovsky ground blades that I had been commissioned to finish. Allan had heavily adorned them.
Please take the time to go to http://www.centercross.com/BobSky/stolen.htm and see the pictures I was able to take when I had finished them. We are hoping if anyone sees one of these knives on e-Bay or offered somewhere else, they’ll get in touch with us.
I would either like to retrieve what I can for my customer or at least be able to send the 3 sheaths that were left and the custom made stands to whomever has them.
One shame is the collection isn’t complete and the other is that my customer will never be able to enjoy them as he planned.
If anyone sees any of these knives ANYWHERE, contact me. (No questions asked.)
Thank you and God bless everyone who took the time to read this.

Centercross,

Sorry to hear about the collection.

Where these blades marked in any way? I don't see any markings in the photos.

Hope you get the punk(s) that did this, or at least the knives that were stolen.
One thing: The pictures of the chute knife didn´t work with my browser (IE5). Check if the link is broken or something.

Thanks for the heads up on the pictures. The wife was anxious to get them up there and missed it. It's corrected now.
Those blades have no makrs on them. They were Bob Sky blades that I finished out for a customer. 7 of my folders were taken and they have my logo (3 crosses) on them. They probably won't do anything with them. They weren't finished - no heat treat, no edge, not even completely assembled.
They tried to take equipment, but if it wasn't bolted down it was too heavy to take. The knives (I think) were taken because they could carry them.
I don't believe they know what they have and will probably unload them at a pawn shop.
I've got a few friends that own pawn shops and already have pictures to them and the knife shop here in town.

I'm very sorry to hear about your knives Gene. I cannot believe that someone would stoop that low. I will keep a good eye out, and pray they are returned to you Gene.

Sorry to hear about that Gene. I will watch from up here. Please BTT periodically so we can keep a continued watch.

Hey Gene-

I'm in Arlington, but I work in Ft. Worth just off Camp Bowie and Bryant Irvin. Always thought of contacting you to see if I could see a knifemaker's shop up close, and ask questions.

Anyway, I go to Pawn Shops around here frequently looking for musical equipment and will definitely be looking out for your customer's stolen blades. Very sorry to hear about this, gives our little piece of (hot) paradise a bad name...

Looks like your website is down just now, I'll check back to get the picture and print a few to hand out.

Brandon,
Gene always welcomes visitors to his shop. He'll be at Bladesmithing School in Arkansas the rest of this week. Give him a call and he'll set something up.

We're pretty sure they'll show up in a pawn shop. I doubt the dummies even know what they have (I'm hoping they don't actually). And it looks like they were after equipment originally. We also went to House of Blades and gave them pictures.

Our site is down temporarily. The hosting service is working on the problem right now. Thanks all for your help.

I apologize to anyone having difficulty accessing our site to see the pictures.
The problems have been traced to a routing problem in Baltimore. Quite a few other sites have been affected as well.
Hopefully it will be resolved today (it's already been quite a few hours).
We are also experiencing some e-mail problems too.

Gene and Pat,
This is a great idea. There are enough people on this forum so there is a chance that someone will see one of the knives. I really hope this works. Unfortunatly this kind of crap always seems to happen to great people like you. Hopefully things will work out.

Rich

Thanks Pat, I'll do that. Please let us know when they get your service back up, I'll be doing some pawn-shopping this week and weekend and will look around the Ft. Worth, Arlington area for you.

Still mad this would happen to good people

Thanks guys. The web site is back up now.

This was quite a blow to Gene. It bothered him more that the kids an I were home when it happened. Actually they're probably very lucky I didn't hear them. They would have been met by an armed woman and a dog if I had.

Luckily we had pictures of the Bob Sky blades - they were supposed to go to the customer this week. The 7 folders they stole may never show up. Once they figure out they can't even sharpen them they'll probably toss them.

The police think it was someone looking for something they could turn into quick cash - probably for drug money. Texas requires an ID when you sell something at a pawn shop. I hope that doesn't keep them from unloading them.

My kids were scared thinking they'd come back again. I told them I refused to let someone make me live in fear in my home. We've taken more precautions, but it will not change how I live.

Rich - sorry this means your knives will be a little later than we planned.

Brandon - you probably drive right by where we live on the way to work. We're off 820 & 30.

Thanks again. For a little while anyway I'll periodically BTTT it.

Pat and Gene, sorry to hear of this. Can't imagine how this must make you feel. Probably can't do much from northern MN. except send best wishes for a satisfactory solution to your problem (and a prayer).

Inside job. Though it is possible the burglar(s) got lucky, I think it is more probable that they had knowledge that expensive knives were located where the man of the house was gone. Try and think of anyone you told or showed the knives. Anyone present indoors, neightbors, delivery person, relative. I don't believe much in coincidence-expensive knives present/man of house absent-seems unlikely a thief would luck into a situation like that.

You might set a trap. Put out the word that one of the knives was worth $13,000. Wait to see who asks which knife, etc.

Homeowners insurance cover it?

Happy hunting,

Gene:

I will search for these. In the past few months I have become adept at searching ebay and other auctions. If they are there I will find them and report back to you. I never do this but, feel free to contact me at drogler@aol.com if you need to ask me anything about what I found.

Big,
We have considered that it was someone who knew Gene was out of town. Most people we know also realize that he doesn't normally keep knives in the shop.
It was of course one of the first questions asked by the police.
Our homeowners policy is going to cover a portion of it. They are also giving us a form for the remainder they don't cover so we can take it as a loss on taxes. (I'd really rather get the knives back.)
At the very least we think it is someone who knew he would be gone and hoped to get equipment. Because the equipment is too heavy or bolted down I guess they took the knives to be able to walk away with something.
I have found myself wording things to some people in a way to see if they know more than they've been told. I hate

being suspicious of people I know, but it's almost unavoidable in a situation like this.

Copper,
Thanks for the help. We're assuming they won't show up right away. We'll keep you posted if we hear anything in that direction.

Everyday I keep being reminded what a great bunch of people there are in the knife community.
