PLEASE HELP:(

Have it laser engraved, should'nt bother the blade coating that way. They can make up a computerized graphic, fancy scrollwork etc. and is usually much cheaper than conventional engraving. There is a guy locally who will laser engrave drinking glasses, shift knobs etc. and the engraving typically only adds $5 or so to the cost of the item. Right now he's running 3-4 weeks behind so you could'nt get it done by him in time for Xmas. He has a website under "Knobmeister"
Good luck!

The Ka-Bar brand USMC Fighting Knife actually takes engraving very well. I've had several done as presentation pieces over the years.

Any Jeweler can do it for you, just make sure you tell them that they have to engrave deep enough to cut through the relatively thick coating and into the steel. I've seen some that engraved the coating, but merely scratched the blade itself.
