Hey guys, I have no clue about knives .
My Q is, I want a knife for my "BUG OUT BAG" SHTF type of stuff , I was looking at a black Ka-bar the one that has a serrated edge carbon steel (1095) and (HRC56-58) and my other choice is a Becker BK7 (58-59) carbon steel (0170-6C) out of these two which one better ?

I really don't know what the #'s mean , besides the higher the number the harder the steel .

Guys thanks for any info you can give me .... :D

Becker is a good choice.

Others to consider:
Cold Steel SRK
GERBER LMF
GERBER nighthawk
KaBar
Ontario knives

I kept it within $$ range of your first two knives.

Welcome to Bladeforums!

You picked a couple of good knives. I have the Becker BK-7 myself. It's a big, tough, sharp knife. The handle is pretty large, so if you have small hands, it might be clumsy.

An advantage of the large handles is the empty space inside which can be used for storage, like this: SASS.

Another good concept is the Cold Steel Bushman, almost absolute minimalism in a sharp, strong knife, which can also be used as a spearhead. You may want to wrap paracord over the handle for comfort and grip, and as a way to carry some useful cord with you.

Carbon steel makes an excellent blade, but you do have to remember to clean and dry it, especially in damp climates.

Don't worry too much about the Rockwell hardness #s. The knives you're looking at are comparable.

Don't forget to include a Swiss Army Knife in your a Bug Out Bag, especially one with a saw.

Esav recommendation is a good 1. I bought my dad a bushman last christmas, a good knife for the price. He's a mad keen gardner uses it all the time he thinks great. Uses it on palm fronds & small branches & the like, he reckons much easeir than sectaurs or getting his saw. The paracord is a good idea I gave him some mine. Also I noticed the last time I saw it he had handle sealed by using a cork, easy to take out, .
Good luck

I'm 6'2 257lbs I don't think the BK-7 would be a problem in my hand.
Thanks guys for the help ....
