My first HI Blade met a surprising road bump today. While chopping with the beast the handle fractured on me.....well it split in 2. I love this thing and hate to see it decommissioned for the time being......do I send it back in? Is the handle covered under warranty or is there anyone out here who rehandles these.....leather or is it possible to get synthetic handles?

It started a time back and was told to just run some super glue or epoxy in it....needless to say, it didn't hold, only delayed the break.....I am just thankful I was home and not camping when this happened.

GF?

Email Yangdu @ himimp@aol.com with one picture.

She will make it right.

OR,

you could start messin' with it. VERY satisfying...if addicting.

Kis, I would love to start doing my own thing, but it would be wood...that is the extent of my abilities and on a chopper like this...I see wood fracturing again....I would like to get something a bit more rugged.

Thanks for the email address!

What you do is make the wooden handle in segments, each segment separated by a piece of say 1/4" thick brass.

This should make the handle much stronger and less prone to splitting.

Neat knife. You could probably gorilla glue it together, using duct tape as a clamping device or drill a couple of holes through the top end then screw it down with temporary screws until the glue has set, then go back and sand off the seam. Just a thought.

search around the bladeforums for leather disk handles or something like that, I read one of the how tos on it and it didnt sound very hard, and would probably be pretty close to what you want.

Wow...you have a big crack. :D

Anyway, with something that size I wouldn't even bother just fixing the wood. It needs a whole new handle. Email Yangdu and she will make it right, but please understand that she may not have another bolo in stock, so you may have to wait for one to be made. You could also send it to Dan Koster or Terry Sisco to get a new handle made.

I am not a wood worker myself, but have a suggestion.
You might purchase a hickory shovel handle from the local hardware store.
shape it to Your needs, and have a local carpenter or furniture maker bore the hole for You.
i am certain there forumite who can tell You how to epoxy or secure the handle to the piece.
Respectfully,
jack

Send it back to Himalayan Imports for replacement

That handle is beyond repair. It could be glued back together, but would not be worth it.

Yangdu's offer of replacement is very generous.

I am no longer doing rehandle work...but am happy to recommend Terry Sisco.

You could also make a handle out of leather washers pretty easily with the remaining parts...if you wanted to tackle it yourself.

Thank you all for the suggestions, and thank you Yangdu.

Daniel could you PM or email me any contact information on Terry Sisco?

Thanks,

Jason

just do a search in this forum for Sisco.
