need help

I got a friend who is looking to buy basically his first knife. he works in a hospital so sheeple is a concern. The other problem is this knife he also wants it to used for self defense if needed. He really likes assisted openers. He only has a budget of around $30. Any help is greatly appreciated it...

For approx $50, he could get a colored (pink, neon green) BM mini grip.

Kershaw blur (Not really sheeple friendly and just over 30... hmmm?)
Leek (not really self defense... hmmm?)
Spyderco Persistence (self defense maybe, cheap yes, sheeple maybe... contendahh?)
Kershaw skyline (could be self defense maybe, sheeple aproved... hmmm?)
I dont know a lot of gerber knives, but they would probably fit the price range and the needs well.

If possible, convince him to spend a little more. Use the "It is worth your life right?" argument. Or the "Buy it once, buy it right argument."

That Mini grip seems perfect for his needs :thumbup:

Yeah...the colored handles do seem to take the "seriousness" out of a knife some.

A colored Mini-Grip or Delica is an excellent choice. I have a yellow M-G and a Green Delica which work well for sheeple concerns.

A silver all-metal Leek also does the trick.

Traditional slipies dont seem to scare anyone either.
