I am finishing a new cane. It is appropriate here because it does have a cutting edge on the rear of the handle. It is also a 36 cal gun.

The head is forged 1/2" X 1.25" 5160. The top is covered with thick suede.

The neck is turned and polished 1" brass.

The brass connects to a 3/4" steel barrel that is 19" long.

Below the barrel is a piece of 3/4" Blood wood with the end turned to fit inside the barrel.

Here is thee problem

The steel barrel has a 4 strand suede braid around it for about 7"

The remainder of the barrel is covered with dyed snake skin.

This transition area is driving me nuts. I need something about 2" wide to make the transition and look right. I have never tied good Turks Head knots and can't imagine how to make one that wide.

I could use some kind of metal band but it would need to be stepped because the braided area is 1/4" thicker than the snake skin area.....

Ideas Please

Maybe you can make a band from the bloodwood, you'd still have to make it stepped inside but it'd be easier to work then metal and it'd match the endpiece.

I say a metal band, maybe a cast silver or bronze one. It could be the focal point with some nice engraving with your initials. BTW this gun/cane sounds very cool!

Agreed, I hope it's understood that the price of our opinions is to see a picture of the finished product. ;)
