I bought what I think is a Cold Steel Shinobu at my local Pawn Shop for $20. It is a lockback and came with a pouch. No pocket clip. Scales are rubbery textured. Very thick knife with a tanto tip. Looks in good as new condition. Cold Steel marked on one side of blade along with Ventura California. Made in Japan on other side of blade. Lockup is tight and no play.

Some info on internet suggests it is san mai iii. Not marked on blade.

Any info is appreciated.

Used to have one long ago. They are hard to find. You scored that knife for $20.
All I can tell you is I believe they were made in the late 80's to early 90's of San Mai III steel.
All tantos if memory serves me correct.

ReadyFreddy23, you landed a rare find at an unbelievable price! A few more details: Despite not being labeled, all the Shinobus had San Mai III blades. If original, the nylon sheath should be embroidered with the Cold Steel logo. You didn't mention size, but it sounds as though you have a medium or large. Cold Steel did manufacture a clip-point version, but gave it a different name, the Clip Mate.

Congratulations on your excellent score!
