Of the CQC7's I have had I now own three.
CQC7 A 2000
CQC7 B 2001
And a CQC7 B WAVE 2001
2 BT version (black) and one CQC7 Wave Silver blade.
I like them all, I gave the CQC A some really hard use and it shows! At one point it the CQC A was the only knife I owned plus a fixed blade form Strider and I felt I had plenty of knife in the Emerson.
The opening of the knives is smooth but I took them apart several times for cleaning and lube with TufGlide, this makes for a super smooth opening. Use a bit of loc tite (blue) on them to hold the screw adjustment in place where you set it. I like Emerson knives becasue they come apart with regular tools, no torx bits in 3 sizes or funny screws, simple screwdriver will do it all philips and flat head.
If your looking for a CQC7 B Tanto I would say get one with the pocket wave. It is so FAST on the draw from the pocket. It takes time to get it down but man the wave is fast (see the emerson web site for a video of the wave in action)

Sharpening is easy but needs to be done correctly to get the chisel grind sharp, the tanto style blade imo is easy to sharpen.
Sharpen only one side then strop or lightly kiss the burr off with a ceramic stone from the un-sharpened side. There are also sharpening tips on the EKI web site.
I like the tanto blade on Emersons, some tanto I don't like but the EKI ones are razor sharp and nice.
I also find the spear point of my CQCA has a bit more utlity use in cutting, but the tanto is a great design and shape.
You will like the CQC-7 line it is a great knife.
