This week I purchased a Schade Walden knife. I have no info on this knife other than a visual description. I would like one of the experts to help me out with a little info. It's 4 inches closed, reddish brown bone handles, 3 blades stockman style. Tang on clip blade reads Schrade Walden NY USA. On the back of the clip is 881. Long pull on the clip blade with ridges. Any sort od info would be appreciated.

Hi Caseclosed - If you collect Schrades, this is the place to be

As always, a quick check of these lists will give you a ball park on when made and components.

Yours will be in the Open Stock knives list - nice model & was very popular.

There's a very comprehensive website managed by our Lrv that contains pictures, catalogs, flyers and some personal collections too.

Prepare to spend some serious time - lots to learn

Also - This forum has a search function that will bring up all kinds of fun info.
There's folks on this forum that especially like the 881 model and post about them frequently, stick around.

Hope you enjoy your Schrade collecting!!

Versions with genuine bone would be c. 1952-c. 1960. With DuPont Delrin plastic handles c. 1960-1973. The plastic can look very much like genuine bone. Look in the areas where the color is not so strong for very tiny dark specks or other traces of grain. If these exist you probably have bone. The plastic handles were made in molds taken from bone examples.
