I recently purchased this 695 folding rigger on THE auction site:

The blade is a plain sheepfoot, non-serrated.

This may be the first Cami 695 I have seen "ad-stamped". The white, hot-stamped "SolaRoll" only appears on the obverse handle.

I have searched online extensively for some reference to anything "SolaRoll" and have not had a single hit ...nothing even close.

I'm hoping that some one of you might "remember" when and/or why and/or WHO a "SolaRoll" might have been. I'm thinking that there's a better than average chance that the hot-stamping happened after a batch of 695's was purchased from Camillus.

Has anyone seen another rigger with an "ad handle" and maybe know whether Camillus did the stamping or not? I'll admit that most of my Cami-knowledge is very "maritime"-related. The few Camillus patterns I follow I are, in one way or another, "rope-related".

They are now apparently based in South Africa. They were one of THE big names in swimming pool covers in the 70s and 80s. One of the problems they encountered was that the rubber covers would start to break down and junk up filter systems after being exposed to the chlorination in the pool water. I think that was what did them in here in the states. Just guessing, I'd place the knife's time from as the mid to late 80s, based on when the company was at their peak.

Bio-Energy Systems, Inc. sold "SolaRoll" home solar hot water heater systems back in the 1980's. Or so says Mother Earth News.
