My little brother is getting ready to move to Venice for a semester to study architecture their. I was planning on getting him a new knife for christmas and need to know any size restrictions in Italy and have tried to find restrictions for the eurorail. I am hoping to go visit him and it would definitley be helpful since I always have two or three on me. I was looking at getting him either a BM Park Avenue or a BM Big Spender. If any one knows of a good looking executive style knife which would be a good aily carry for under $125 please let me know. Thanks for everything.

Don't overlook the BM 940. Light, nice looking, a lot of blade for the size of the handle.

I visited Italy last December and I found that Italians do not frown upon the carry of a knife. Though I did not take a knife with me on the flight over (customs restrictions), I bought a SAK Rucksack and a Spyderco Dragonfly when I arrived in Venice. I used the SAK for everything from opening wine bottles to cutting bread and cheese. A SAK may be more valualbe to him than the others mentioned, though they are excellent choices.

You mention the EuroRail and though I didn't travel via train in Italy, I did travel the EuroRail from London to France and had no problem. They are not subject to the strict restrictions as the airlines are and no one checks your luggage. It is with you the whole time and you yourself place in the racks.

I appreciate the replies they were extremely helpful. Having this kind of information pool is definitley a beautiful thing.
