WOW - this guy has some SWEET knives for sale and I am very new to the custom world. Can anyone give me some reviews of his quality and workmanship and fit and finish. I really like some of his tactical/combat/utility knives and would be interested in your thoughts on his knives.

Thanks!

david

David crafts a very fine blade! I've owned some and handled quite a few, fit and finish is top-notch and designs are first-rate. He's a stand-up kinda guy too, always a pleasure crossing paths with him. Decide which model fits your needs, you'll not be disappointed in the craftsmanship. Below is a pic of my Tusk, I've worked the snot outta it.
Stay Safe,
Clyde

You can't beat a Dempsey knife. I own several myself. David is a great guy and somewhat of a mentor to me in the knifemaking world.
Dempsey is starting to make a good name for himself but my feeling is that he is still one of the most under-rated knifemakers out there today. I've never seen a knife come out of his shop that was of poor quality. Many custom makers will send you a dull or poorly sharpened knife. Not David Dempsey! His knives are always sharp.
You would be quite satisfied with his blades. Dempsey has many designs and doesn't seem to stick to just one or two types of blade styles. He can make just about anything from what I have seen. If you have not visited his website you can check it out at www.dempseyknives.com
One word of caution------ be prepared to purchase more than one. If you own one Dempsey you will surely want another one. Of course you really want to check out the Mini Asian elephant Tusk and the Micro Tusk. ;) My favorite Dempsey knife is the various Kozuka styles. I'm just a big Japanese knife fan.
Don't be afraid of Mr. Dempsey and his work. You will be proud to own it. It is quality any way you look at it.

Hey Clyde. I am happy to see that you have put your mini Tusk to good use and gave it a nice test run. :D

Does Mr Dempsey work on "custom" designs that we have? I am laying out the ideal knife for ME and am looking for the right person to make it...his artistic and design ideas look like he thinks in the same vein as I do. Wondering if he would take my design and "run with it."

Any thoughts?

David

David will be happy to work with you on custom designs and YOU will be most happy with the results.

Outstandingly strong knives; excellent fit and finish; honest-to-god SHARP edges.

And a terrifically nice guy on top of it all.

I haven't purchased anything from Mr. Dempsey, but I have emailed back and forth with him several times about his knives. I made it clear from the start that it might be a while before I made a purchase, and that I was just gathering information at the time. Even so he went out of his way to get back to me in a prompt fashion, and was very courteous. He seems like a standup guy, and I've heard nothing but good things about him and his knives on BF. Good luck.

I don't post here often, but had to put in my two cents worth on David Dempsey. It's hard to imagine an easier guy to work with. I have several of his knives both to collect and to use. His work is hard to beat.

I've worked with him and been amazed with the results. He made a trainer for a "live" blade of his (Avenger). My wife won't leave for a trail ride without the Mini-Kozuda he made for her. One of his D-tac's lives on my LBE for my work in Urban SAR (FEMA).

To top it all off, he even graciously has apprenticed me in knifemaking and allowed me to work beside him in his shop last year.

He is a creative, exacting maker and his knives are one of the best kept secrets in the custom knive world.

I think you'll be pleased with a project with him and find working with him a delight!

A couple of weeks ago I received my first custom knife and David Dempsey was the person which made my dream come through! And I am 200% satisfied! David is doing a great job and gives the very best customer support you can ask for!!! :)

I did the original design, with David's input and suggestions. Then David added the little extra which made my knife so fantastic! You can check it out here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=307417

So you are much in the same situation as I was- looking for your "dream knife"- and I highly recommend David for this!!! But one thing I learned during the process of creating my dream knife- listen to David's suggestions! He knows what he is talking about and he will run with your original design and make it even better! :)

Regards,

Jorgen

I have a couple of knives that David made for me. I know that he will make variations of the knives he has on his website. The knife in the first set of photos is a combination of an APU and a EDC. I've used this knife to skin a couple of elk and a buffalo. It is both beautiful and functional.

This next knife is a D'Fighter made from S30V and it has the Tungsten DLC coating. I love this knife. The steel holds an edge better than any other knife I've owned and the coating is extremely tough.

Both knives display wonderfully skilled craftsmanship. They are symetrical side to side and the finishing on each knife is impecable. If you have any questions about them I'd be happy to answer them to the best of my ability.

One of my favorite knives was made by David. Absolutley gorgeous knife with a fit and finish you will not find better anywhere. My knife is a huge bowie knife and I love it. It has an edge that is air-bleeding sharp!!! You will not be sorry if you buy a Dempsey knife. I plan on adding more of Davids knives to my collection! Good Luck, Ron..... :)

All i can say is give David call or send him an e-mail! You want regret it, at the every least you'll have a good time talking to him! But most likely he will get you set up with what you want and need in a knife.

I've got three of his knives right now and would buy another one any time i had a chance and the money!

I have three David Dempsey knives...a 6" D'Fighter II with maroon micarta; an S30V Viper and an Exec with carbon fiber handle. All are superior quality.

Someone above mentioned the very sharp edges David puts on his knives...unlike some other makers. No sh_t !! Seriously sharp.

I acquired a Buster Warenski sub-hilt fighter not long ago...was disappointed with the edge, so I asked Mr Warenski if I could send it back to him for re-sharpening...he said ok...it came back marginally better than when I sent it.

I was thinking about asking Mr Dempsey to see what he could do with it...so, David, if you're out there and read this...whaddayasay?? :)

I would like to "ditto what has been so perfectly said.
David is a wonderful guy and his work is outstanding. Once, I waited "9" months for a project and it was well worth it:)
