hello there,

i have an EK knife that is different than most i have seen,
it has the usual logo on the tang, except it says "benchmade" instead of
"WW2, korea, vietnam" any info on this knife would be apreciated!

I would guess that it was not a Richmond Ek... for a while, after Blackjack bought a license (I don't believe they bought rights) they fanned out a lot of OEM contracts for prototypes... what kind of markings does it have on the other side of the blade? Usually the Blackjacks have Effingham markings on there.

it says effingham illinois on the backside - same as the origonal EK models, but what i'm most curious about is why it says "benchmade" on it?

I believe that was called the Magnum hunter......they were made at Richmond to begin with towards the end and then some were done at Effingham....not sure why there are benchmade markings....probably a buzzword attached to get them to sell better.

Yes, this was part of the Magnum series of hunters that Ek put out in the early 90's, there were 4 or 5 of them. Bench Made use to describe a knife that was handmade by a group of knifemakers in a factory type setting. That term isn't much used anymore.
