So ive been doing some research on blade material. I dont like to spend alot on knives for various reasons. It seems i can get cheaper knives from china that perform just as well as more expensive knives.

chinese brands such as harnds, enlan, and sanrenmu say they make their knives out of 8cr14mov, 8cr13mov and 8cr13mov. The knives run about 15 bucks and from my research that steel is just as good as asu-8 steel

from what i hear its on par with crkt's, spyderco, kershaw blades that cost $30.

Does anyone have insight or experience? Im also want to hear about 9cr18mov, is it much better than 8cr13 or 14mov? And how about s30v steel?

Does anyone buy knives from these chinese manufactures? Id love to hear your thoughts on the knives.

None of them will hold up anywhere near S30V but for a beginner EDC knife, as long as you don't mind frequent sharpening (which its easy to sharpen) it isn't bad. Personally I don't care for any of them (and classify them all as the same) and I also consider AUS-8 quite a bit better. Another personal thing but the only knife I've bought in he steel for a long time was the spyderco tenacious I bought on sale for $27, other than that I shy away from it.

I have been very surprised at the quality and workmanship of the Enlan brand of knives. The steel is okay for general use. Mind you it is just a knife designed for cutting. Don't think that you would be able to do the things that many people do with Strider knives. That would just result in possible injury. I use my Enlan EL-04 for general work around my house. It is basically a beater knife, but does a really, really good job. It does need to be sharpened every so often, but I suppose that will depend on what you are cutting. Hope that my $.02 has been helpful in some way.

Hahaha "Paratrooper"

Seriously, though. Don't buy that. I'm all for purchasing a Chinese knife. Just so long as it's not a straight up knock off.

I have a few China-made Kershaws that work like a dream. They cut everything I throw at them, and yes they dull after some use. Happens to every blade. I don't have anything bad to say about 8Cr13MoV.

Enlan, ganzo, and Sanrenmu make good products. I'd stay away from any other chinese knifemaker - they all seem to have really poor quality control. Navy, Tekut, and Harnds all are extremely spotty in their QC.

Any company making knockoff Spydercos and the like should be ignored, as well as their claims. D2, 440C(technically 9cr14MoV in the case of Chinese makers) and 8Cr13MoV are the only steels I would trust to be what they claim. I'd bet cash money that knife is not S30v. Especially for the price.

Also, you'll want to remove that link - it's considered deal spotting. On top of that, posting links to sales sites that are not on the approved list is also verboten. Thirdly, that link is to a counterfeit, which I believe is either against the rules or at least a quick way to get some heat from members here.

Please don't buy that spyderco PM2 knock off, it is 100% for sure NOT S30V. Of you want to buy a Chinese knife buy a SRM or a Enlan, not a blatent knock off of an American knife.

is harnds a decent chinese brand knife?

I personally like the Enlan knives.

I have an Enlan El-02 and an Enlan EL-04. Bot really nice knives with the Axis type lock. I say "type" because although similar, they will not be anywhere near as strong as Benchmades Axis lock.

8Cr is an amazing budget steel. Takes a scary edge in no effort and holds it surprisingly well. SRM does an excellent HT on it and many of their blades can hit 60 on the Rockwell. I prefer 9Cr, but 8Cr is no slouch. At 59 Rockwell it should perform about the same as AUS-8 at 58 or 57. AUS-8 holds and edge slightly better, but the difference is pretty much negligible.

im leaning towards the el-02, i like the look better

I got my EL-02 from a guy on the bay that was testing out his scale making skills. I got it for a steal really. Its a great knife, with a damn nice blue G-10 scales on it!

OP, you can find a Kershaw Crown for around $15 (give or take a couple $)at most Walmarts. Phenomenal budget minded little knife.

The thing about buying items from of Chinese origin is:

1) They are not bound by consumer protection laws, you roll the dice and take your chances with any purchase.

2)They often mis-state materials used, quality of workmanship, origin of materials and a myriad of other things in an effort to get your money sent to them. Getting your money back from them is often difficult or impossible.

3) They often have wide variance in quality control or none at all.

4) They often have no after sales service and no warranty, even if they say they do.

As for the counterfeit end of the deal..... everyone should take time to watch this: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1080398-Counterfeits-The-Truth-of-the-matter
