I have seen on this forum about a product called pyroceram that can be used with the flat platen to lessen wear. My Wilton square wheel platen has had to be reground by a machine shop twice to take the grooves out......does anybody have any info on this product? Sounds like it might be the trick if I could locate some.

Thanks in advance!

Hi! I have heard great things about it, but I'm not a knifemaker (yet), so I can't attest to its utility. But, I do know where you can get some at a good price.

Talk to steve @ http://www.stevescutlery.com/ . I ordered a pyroceram plate for a friend and Steve was prompt and helpful with the emails, shipped it out the same day I ordered it.

good luck!

I have several platens with this material and would hate to be without it. I highly recomend it's use.

Found some Neoceram at the local glass shop. I'm told that Neoceram has a little higher temp range.Cost me $10 for a 2x8 inch piece.

You can also get it from Darren Ellis here in the forums. I highly recommend it.....I attach it to the platen using JB Weld.

Got mine from Steve a little over a year ago and it's just now starting to show a line or two, and I use the flate platten for a lot of shop work other than knives. When this ones finaly gets to bad I'll definatly get anouther.
