Need info on Schrade pocket knife......

I recently purchased a Schrade pocket knife at a flea market. It has three blades. At the base of the clip blade it is stamped "Schrade NY USA" on one side and "863" on the other side. It has what appears to be amber brown jigged bone handles with an elongated oval "Schrade" shield. It appears to have nickel silver bolsters with brass liners. It has never been sharpened and is in excellent condition. The knife is 3.5" closed and 6.25" open (clip blade).
Can anyone help me with identifying this knife......year(s) made, original retail price, and model name or can you direct me to where I can locate this info. I've checked e-bay and the forum archives and cannot locate an 863. Thank you for your help.

Thanks for dropping in, BuffBill. I'm sure one of the real experts here can help us out. Here is a pic of a 'Schrade-Walden' 863, so I am guessing your knife is a newer version put out since 1973. But I cannot find a listing for it. Perhaps a special issue? Again, let's get some more input here from the other members.

That's definitely the profile and the blades....the knife on the far right has the elongated shield my knife has...howerer, the handles are different, as I said mine are brown/white in cloror like a jigged bone stag.....Thanks for your help it made it easy with a picture...Are there catalogs available with all the Schrades that were manufactured? I am really starting to get into this collecting.... ;) I don't know why it is so hard to locate references to this 863. Thanks again you have been very helpful.......

Buffalo_Bill,
Welcome to the group and the addiction.

I found your 863 in the 1981 catalog and its missing by 1983. It has the stagalon handles and was in the open stock group. Sold for 11.95.

Catalogs are rare prior to 2000.

thanks for the info......I paid $12.00 for it yesterday...sme price as in 1981 or 1982!. It really is in mint condition! However no paperwork or box. It has been sitting in a former collector's glass enclosed display case for all these years. Never used or sharpened. Any idea of the collector's value today! I am not interested in selling it though. I think it was a good find!! :D

You guys are great! thanks again

Bill

I told ya a real expert would know something about it. Although Larry would argue about his expertise, being a gentleman and all. How much is it worth? Hard telling, it is so unusual. Maybe an educated Schrade collector would go $75 for it. Glad you've found us anyway, BuffaloBill.

El Lobo (Bill), I wonder what Bernard Levine thinks of you stealing his questioners??!! But glad ya did. We do have the reputation of providing answers here.

Follow me......I'm the Pied Piper....Follow me.......

I just "borrowed" him because of his name..... :D ......He's free to wander about at will, of course. But I bet he'll be back, because you folks are very knowledgeable as well.

Welcome to the Schrade forum Buffalo_Bill....as long as you're not the "bad" Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs.......

Plain old Bill.

Phil,
I'm blushing... I have met and know experts in this knife group. I am happy to say I can call them friends. An expert knows this stuff without needing to refer to a catalog. Someone whom can tell you not only the years a knife was made but the history and stories about it and admit when they don't know something are the experts, in my humble opinion. I'll never be that good at it no matter how long I maintain the addiction. I'm good at looking stuff up but my retention is limited. It's commonly refered to as C.R.S. I'm just not wired that way but I do love finding answers.
As for values of knives I always run when asked.
Have a great rest of the day and unlike me stay dry.. We are flooding again.

Thank you much Larry and Phil for responding to my questions as timely as you did. Since I am a newbie on this forum I am still finding my way around... I did originally post my question to B. Levine, however I was directed to check under the manufacturers forum for a more immediate answer...which you guys provided......

Great people make for a great forum! I hope to be calling on your expertise in the future as I become a more experienced and knowledgeable collector of Schrade knives and company history etc.......

Muchos gracias......

Buffalo_Bill ;)
