Need Info on SOG Government S13 w/ Leather Sheath

Picked one of these uncoated models up at a gun show for $40.00 and it has a leather sheath marked SOG. When did SOG produce leather sheaths and then go to Kydex? The blade is in perfect shape, so is the sheath.
 
SOG made a changeover to Kydex sheaths about five years ago. I know they came with nylon sheaths before that and did also come with leather sheaths at one time.
 
Sounds like you got a great deal, especially if it is the carbon steel model. The current model uses lowly AUS6 stainless, last I heard. I am pretty sure SOG formerly made a good carbon steel version. Last I checked, only the AUS6 stainless is still being offered - too bad. Maybe SOG should follow Cold Steel's lead and return to offering more carbon steel models. I'll take any carbon steel over any stainless below 440C. Sadly, a lot of knife companies seldom offer better than AUS8 in stainless blades.
 
The only SK-5 carbon blades on the Government were blued...none were brushed steel. See my post in this thread for an explanation of Government models.

Government: AUS6A stainless steel with a brushed finish.

High carbon would be nice, but for $40 I won't complain too much.
 
Great deal, I would gladly give that for one ! :D It will make a good user, I have heard several people say they think is a good knife and the blade steel performs very well.
