Need information on 440X

has anyone heard of 440x stainless? i bought a custom made japanese knife made of this and it seems to be as tough and a good edge retaining steel as 154cm. i haven't been able to find this steel anywhere else it seems to be very rare. the only other place i have seen it was on ebay under 440x. information on this steel would be appreciated.

i bought a knife that is made of 440x specially formulated steel. it is difficult to sharpen it seems about as difficult to sharpen as zdp189 or 154cm. the only place i have been able to find another knife like this is on ebay under 440x, i swear i looked everywhere but have turned up nothing on this stuff. if anyone has any knowledge of this steel i would like to read your feedback.

I have bought one of thoes cheap-o survival knife kits from smkw I think, You know the one compass in the screw off handle, survival kit in the handle , hard plastic sheath with a sling shot built in to it spear etc,etc,etc. Either way all I can find is the junkie ones does a really good one exist? i have one that is custom made by sword maker saburo in japan and it is made of specially formulated 440x steel. it is a force to be reckoned with. this steel is as tough as 154cm and is slightly difficult to sharpen. it is about 15" long. i like it if you look in ebay under 440x you will find one just like it. it is numbered and very rare. it is the only other one that i have ever seen. if you know anything of this steel feedback would be nice.
 
check out 400x on ebay and tell me if you've ever heard of this stuff before. i can't find anything about this steel on the net. it seems to be some specially formulated japanese steel. please feedback.

check out this knife i found on ebay under 440x. it is apparently some good japanese sh*t. i guess its tougher than 154cm. info on this steel would be nice. it seems quite rare because i can't find it on the net.
 
isn't zdp189 better than both of those steels? i also found some kind of bad ash knife on ebay under 440x. i bought one of these knives and they seem pretty dam tough. i have not seen them but 1 other place on the internet and now i can't even find that page. you should check it out and give me some feedback on this stuff. like the hrc etc..

154 CM is pretty much second only to S30V in edge retention in terms of mid grade stainless or high end production folder stainless, and I think it's close enough that if you had both and didn't know which was which, and were not allowed to look for microchipping, you wouldn't know the difference in terms of cutting.

zdp189 is alot better than 154 cm. and 440x is every bit as good. do yourself a favor and check out the knife under 440x on ebay. maybe its what you're lookin' for. i like it and it doesn't seems to chip at all.
 
christ what an anoying person
if he would of waited a few minuites maybe someone would have helped him
of course he was pushing that ebay knife alot, I bet it isnt even 440x
more like 440a

I've never heard of 440X. 440V, sure. I have a couple of those, along with 440C and a few that just say 440 or 440 series. Anyone shilling for his own auction that hard doubtless knew it was the lowest grade 440 ever made.

I wonder how many stories and questions he has made up to sell his pos knives on evil-bay
 
I actually just sold a large Blackjack clone that said "Saburo Japan". I don't remember seeing 440X on it anywhere though.

That said, his posts before this thread weren't anything like this. Maybe his account got jacked.
