Hi out there this is my first time on BladeForums so be patient with me. I am looking to buy a new folding knife and I need some feed back I live in Texas so that means no switch blades or spring openers the blade limit is 5 and one half inches in Texas but I will settle for 5 I want a liner lock right hand thumb stud and a pocket clip The blade can be stainless or not I will look at all blade shapes as long as it has all the above features I will be for defence and general chores Please feel free to make any suggestions.

Thanks

We also need some information, as that encompasses a large amount of knives. What price range? What kind of handle material and color? What steels would you prefer, and do you want a black blade or plain? Straight edge or serrated? Do you want to be able to sharpen it easily, but lose an edge faster? Or would you prefer a knife that is more difficult to sharpen, yet keeps an edge for days or weeks of hard use?

Without any of these questions answered, a Rat 1 or Rat 2 from Ontario, a Spyderco Tenacious or Resilience, the more expensive Gayle Bradley from Spyderco, multiple Kershaws would do the trick. Be aware that the Spyderco knives have holes instead of thumb studs, which I and many others find more useful for opening with or without gloves, and don't get in the way of cutting like thumbstuds.

First, welcome to BF :)

Second, although you slightly narrowed it down its still wide open. Are you saying you want a 5" blade or is there a range you're comfortable with? Also are you saying you only want a single right handed thumbstud or are dual studs ok? If you can answer those couple Q's I'm sure myself and others will be able to give you some great suggestions.

Hi
I need a recommendation on 2 knives. First the folder I live in Texas so no automatic knives or assisted openers and no double edge I would like a 5 and a half inch blade but I will settle for a 5 inch also a liner lock I like them best a right hand thumb stud and a pocket clip

For the fixed blade still no double edge but a 5 and 1/2 or 5 inch blade a good nylon or plastic sheath since I will be using this knife in wet conditions
carbon or stainless it not a matter I take care of my stuff

Thanks for all input

Hi, automatic knives as well as assisted opening knives are very legal in Texas, you are correct on the double edged aspect though. Not sure about 5" bladed liner locks, but look into Cold Steel. They have some pretty large folders that might fit your needs.

For the fixed blade I'd reccomend anything in the kabar Becker line, but especially the bk10(my personal favorite:D)

Maybe the third time is the charm I have posted questions in the general knife discussion before yet for some reason I never see them So here goes for the last time
I am looking for a folding knife the blade can not be longer than 5 and one half inches in length but no shorter than 5 inches the blade can not be double side or be a switchblade or even assisted opener ( I live in Texas ) I need a right handed thumb stud and pocket clip I will consider any blade shape or material as long as the knife fits the other criteria

thanks

All very nice knives however the OP asked for a blade length between 5 and 5.5".

You could look into a few by Cold Steel - the Voyager XL, Espada Large or a Recon XL.

These are all that I am aware of. There aren't very many folders beyond 4" because that is too long for most people, and very few beyond 5". Besides those mentioned, the Spyderco Szabo is just under 5", and there are a couple of Benchmade folders that are just under 5".

As for what is legal in Texas, I don't believe assisted knives have ever been illegal. I've had some assisted Kershaw knives for over 10 years. And this past September automatic knives became legal, but they can be hard to get because federal law still controls shipping them across state lines.
