(Un)fortunately(?) I have plenty of knives I want to purchase, but none really scream louder than others... Examples being: a BK16, Northwoods/queen whittler, DPx hest, plus quite a few more.

I don't have many gaps that aren't covered by another kmife I already own, so these could be looked at as redundant. But which one of us doesn't have a backup for our backups backup, lol... You folks know what I mean.

What I am curious to know is, how do you all decide what is next if one doesn't really stand out as the next "must buy"?

I'm not looking for What to buy next, just how to go about managing the list I do have. I am open to a trade or two though.

In such cases I usually wait for a good deal on whichever.

Just the other day, a sweet deal on one that's been on my list for awhile just popped up and it was an instant reflex to snag it.

I consider price, vailability, sales nd coupon codes as well as plin old desire. Knives that are consistently hard to find get bumped up. If i get a coupon code nd can get a killer deal a higher cost item may get priority. I dont plan any of it out mind you. I go with the flow and let those outside influential factors guide my purchases. Oh yeah 0% apr credit card promotional periods also act as a guiding light.

After having gone through so many budget knives. My new criteria is that it has to be a really great #$&@@(#$ knife!

Slim ergos, light weight great blade to handle ratio, great fit and finish, good above average user steel. Utilitarian. My last three knives: rough rider half whittler, Elmax blur, large 21 are all great examples of really great non gimmicky utilitarian knives!

The I'm ergos is really important to me I. E. A Spyderco domino in my hand and pocket was too chunky to edc but the thin handled blur was perfect!

I base my next purchase of of previous features/materials I've liked in the past. Or towards a type of knife I think I want/ need. You know chopper, slicer, rescue blade, fixed, kitchen knife, axe. Perhaps get custom scales, anodize some ti, or a custom clip. Or take a whole other route and get a nice wallet, sunglasses, pen, watch.

The main considerations for me are:

1. Do I have the funds?

2. Does it fill a practical need or is it just something I want? A practical need is priority.

3. Is it still in production? If not, it may jump to the top of my list. Or at least near the top.

4. Ergos/features are now playing a large role in my knife choices. For example, I love the Benchmade Volli, but will never buy it because of the AO feature.

Of course there is always the exception knife. We all have one. You know the knife I am talking about. You have five that you already own plus two in the mail and plan to purchase more given the chance. Yet, only one ever gets any pocket time.
