Need input on new Sebenza sheath

Okay, here's what I need. I have been making sheaths for all my knives for quite some time. Just recently I obtained a small Sebenza. No doubt I am going to make a belt sheath for it. The sheath will be hand sewn, made from thinner stock than normally found on fixed blades. The thinner leather gives a thinner profile and doesn't feel as bulky. I'm not sure whether to make one form fitted to the knife with or without the clip attached? I can make it with a metal clip sewn into the sheath so the wearer can remove the sheath without undoing his/her belt and clip it anywhere else (maybe inside pocket of coat)--OR--make the belt loop from leather. Which would be your preference if you were looking for a sheath? Once I get my pattern down, I'll make one for myself and then make one for a forumite that also owns a small sebenza that wants a sheath (free). Why don't you give me your thoughts on what you would like to see?

Please
1. Remove the clip on the knife.
2. Make the sheath with the clip on it instead of the belt loop.
3. Send me a free one.
4. Answer the Sebenzanista roll call at Chris Reeve forum.
5. Have a Great Holiday

I think for a smaller knife a horizontal sheath/pouch is great. I had an AIRSOG like that and I really liked it. It was easy to get out, even when seated and a lot less likely to catch on things.

Never was one for those metal clips on sheaths, I prefer the belt loop that's tight on the belt, but your sheath sounds like a good one!
I use 7/8ounce leather when I form mine, thinner leather would form a heck of a lot easier but might not retain it's memory or shape so I'd be careful if you don't have a flap protecting the knife.
Love the Small Sebenza, good choice!

That's kind of you to offer a free sheath, I like seeing other peoples work and hearing of more LeatherSmiths, there seem to be so few of us around, welcome!

My thoughts on my next small Sebenza sheath.

Vertical carry with leather belt loop that keeps it less than an inch above the belt line. Made for a clipless knife, and a loose fit to not scuff or rub the decorated surface. Tip up to allow the fob to remain attached, with a snap down flap for security.

I would be honored to give it a test run for you, and give it a fair comparison to the ones I have from G2 and Todd at Gfellers Casemakers.

Thanks for the generous offer.

My preference would be:
Make it so the butt is up so that you can remove it with the lanyard.
Okay, I'm a dummy, never can remember what's tip up or tip down!

TANGUS,
I just bought a small Sebenza 2 weeks ago and would love a good sheath for it. Personally I would like one that would be for the small Sebenza without the clip attached and a metal clip sewn into the sheath. My job requires me to wear sweat pants etc.. a lot and seldom wear a belt except on weekends. Oh, and tip-up.

Just a teaser shot for ThomM of two other small Sebenza Sheathes.

The brown one on the left was made by G2 and is my brothers, the black one on the right was made by Todd Brandel at Gfeller Casemakers and is on my belt right now.

Hmmm, are you going to try for the large one too?

Now those are some classy sheathes. I only hope mine looks as good, cause I know they feel as good.
