Recently I have been looking at new knives and thinking abou buying one. What I am looking for is a moderatly priced locking folder with relativly large clip-point style bowie blade (or any other blade that looks as good if they exist). I like Tops cqt magnum and thier smaller folder, and coldsteel's recon clip point. Why not spyderco of benchmade do you ask? Well I do like benchmades don't get me wrong but none of the ones I've seen look good (although is I could find a knife with a good axis type or similar style lock that would be an added bonus); the same with spyderco the knives don't look good. I must admit the microtech vector is very nice but $$$. Any advice?:)

I love my TOPS Magnum too, but what is it about Benchmade that you don't like? Some of my favourites are Benchmade (710, 705, 722 - all with axis lock). Spyderco makes some good stuff too!????

You want a bowie style clip point in a folder? How about the Spyderco Chinook. I believe it was designed by James Keating. Seems to fit the bill to me.

If you are looking for a real tough, strong folder you really cannot go wrong with the TOPS Magnum. It is the only folder I own which seriously acts like and is as strong as a fixed blade when opened.

I own quite a few folders (Benchmade, Emerson, Microtech, Cold Steel, Al Mar etc. etc.) and when you simply want something strong and tough it is hard to beat the Magnum.

The negatives: The Magnum is not the prettiest production folder and it is way too big to carry in your pocket. It also will scare people if you open it up in the wrong group!

Hi~I need help with choosing a knife for my husband. What kind of knife do you give a guy who has everything? He's loves all hunting and fishing including big billfishing. He's a little particular about his hunting gear and I am thinking if it's unique, he'll like it. Got any suggestions? Anyone? Thanks!

Go custom. Check the customs forum for ideas. There are plenty of good makers who can make a knife any man would be proud to own.

KJB & DullBlade, here's a knife you both can take a look at. KJB, I love a clip point blade also and I haven't seen many knives as pretty as this Model 470, production or custom. DullBlade, you're looking for something unique for a hunter husband, not only is this knife pretty and unique I'd bet it's one heck of a user also, and if he doesn't like it nobody beats AG Russell's return policy.

Now how come I don't own one of these? I actually went to buy one from AG's table at Blade last year and I couldn't find one where the edge grind was equal. Now maybe I'm a bit picky or maybe it was just a bad run, but I would ask them to check it if I called in to order one.
;)

PhilL~

I just wanted to thank you for your reference to the A.G. Russell site. I was very impressed with the knife. I put in a "rush order" since hubby's birthday is right around the corner. I am sure that he will love it. It's very unique. I ordered the larger one because I know he has a hard time feeling like a knife feels right in his large hand. I was having a very hard time making a decision until I saw this one. I am one happy girl now!!! Thanks again!:)

DullBlade you're welcome, I'm glad you liked it and I'm sure he will also. Wish him a happy birthday from all of us here.

Congrats. Feel free to hang around now that you find a knife. When your husband gets it be sure to tell him about the forum too.

DullBlade, your husband is one lucky guy. you wouldn't happen to have a sister, would you? heheh. Welcome to the forum.

Dullblade,
You need to give birthday gift advice to my wife...;)
My birthday is in a few weeks, and I'd like one of those as well:D

Thank you guys for all of your sweet comments. I just can't wait to receive the knife and give it to my hubby. He just won't believe that I did this all alone. I'll be sure to give him the info on this site so he can enjoy the forum, too. You all have been so wonderful...and I am actually learning about the things my husband loves. Take care everyone and thank you again!

:p)
