I have been carrying a Wenger Esquire as my EDC for longer than I can remember. Of course I carry something else when I think I'm going to need it, but this thing rides in my pocket and is perfect for everyday tasks around the office such as opening mail, packages, starting an orange, etc.
In January, however, I cut my right index finger to the bone when a different non-locking folder closed on me. Five stitches and nerve damage later, I'm over carrying non-locking knives for EDC purposes. I know that's my problem and am not interested in discussing the pros and cons of slipjoint knives.
I am looking for something thin and light with a locking blade -- and just a knife. No multitools.
Width -- .4 or less for the handle width. Thinner is better. I will not carry with a clip.
Weight -- 3 oz or less. Less is a lot better. In both width and weight, it needs to carry unobtrusively in a pair of dress slacks.
Blade length -- Something from 1.75-3 inches.
Steel -- I'm willing to pay extra for some of the better quality steels -- stainless or carbon makes no difference to me as long as it can be sharpened before my hand goes numb and will hold an edge.
Blade type: No wharncliffe, hawksbill, tanto or sheepsfoot styles. No chisel grind. Preference for flat/scandi/saber/convex and NOT hollow, but not a deal-breaker.
Overall -- Not interested in Spyderco -- I know they make awesome knives -- just not for this purpose for me. Needs to be relatively unobtrusive in appearance for office use. One-handed or assisted opening would be a nice bonus. I'd like to pay $100 or less. Even better if it's available on Amazon -- I have a gift card
Thanks for your help!
