I keep cutting my fingers when I close my mini grip and have run out of band aids that new graham supplied me with...i think i'll complain to them for not enough blood retainers.

the blade on my mini grip is just like super sharp, even though it's only 440c steel. this has proved to be my most favorite knife. does anyone know of a knife that can out do my tanto mini grip in pure awsomeness of how it looks and the quality of the blade? i'm pretty sure that y'all will send me lots of info on knives to look at, but i will only choose one, for i am but a poor girl....who lives in a small town....a town with people....they killed people in that town...people who died....all in that small country town.....

Better get a fixed blade, so you wont close anything on your fingers.- Or, move the finger out of the way before closing :p

A suggestion for your next knive - might save you a few gallons of the red stuff.

440C is a great blade steel, in my opinion. Just get used to getting sliced every now and again. Run out of bandaids? Paper towels, toilet paper, or super glue works. I just let it bleed and wipe the blood off on my pants for that tough look. Also, you can hold the cut closed until it stops bleeding, than just let it crack open every now and then. The scar tissue will toughen your fingers up. ;) Don't worry about infection-- what dosn't kill you just prolongs the inevitable...

Pure awesomeness is pretty subjective. I'm sure there are many opinions on the blades that demonstrate that quality.

That last part of your post is interesting. Lots of killin's in a small town-- reminds me of a movie or two that i've seen.

440C is an excellent steel. It's not the latest and greatest, but it is more than adequate.

i dont understand why you are cutting yourself so often - are you trying to close the knife one-handed?
most inexperienced people will cut their fingers when trying to close an axislock/linerlock/lockback one-handed. for now, you should just get into the habit of closing it with two hands. its not as slick and not as fast, but there is no conceivable situation where you have to close a knife quickly so its not like that extra second matters.

I'm trying to remember, but I can't remember ever cutting myself with any of my AXIS lock knives. They should be the least likely to cut you since you don't have to put your fingers in the path of the blade. If you do put your fingers in the path of the closing blade you are being careless. Until you get used to closing the knife all you should have to do is LOOK to see if any of your fingers would be in the way of the closing blade.

The last quote was from Plan 9 from Outer Space, I think...it's a reallllllly old cheesy sci fi movie...I'm not exactly sure how it comes into play here.

Well, the thing about closing knives with one hand is that we're not actually using the knives...it's just so addictive to flick an axis lock in and out.

Another old sci fi movie quote, for those who might know

"The ol in out my droogies"

That might not be exact.

Anyway, I cut myself probably once getting used to the axis lock. What I do is I put my fingers up against the pocket clip...when I feel the pocket clip (even though I don't think about it anymore) against the tip of my fingers I know my fingers are out of the way. I didn't give her the axis tutorial like maybe I should have. She's not bad with it though.

I wonder how much blood will flow when she gets her bali.

AUGH. I can't wait until the szabofly comes out.

But yeah, the szabofly and spyderfly are more awesome...the 940 osbourne is more awesome....maybe the switchback...the native is comparably awesome...the persion is definitely more awesome....

But the tanto edge minigrip is still pretty awesome ;-)

The people who were all killed in that small town weren't killed with a tanto Mini-Griptilian, were they???..

umm how are you cutting yourself

just pull the axis bar back and flip the knife closed

your finger is not in the path of the blade

what baffles me more is how you cut yourself REPEATEDLY

It's actually pretty easy to cut yourself with an axis lock. Most of us have been using knives for ~15+ years, so we don't notice it. Bascally, if you're holding the knife incorrectly during closing, two of your fingers, your ring and middle finger, have the potential to get cut. I actually find it a lot easier to get cut on an axis lock than the liner lock/integral lock that she's used to. You just...can't close those on your fingers....the finger that pushes over the lock is before where the blade starts so the sharp part on a properly designed knife can't get you, much less on a knife with a flipper like her's.

I got my Griptilian about 2 months ago and I now can open and close with 1 hand, both right or left hand. I had to practise for several days to do it with my left hand. I did not cut myself. Thank goodness. I didn't realise it was that risky.

Dull it up or put a piece of tape on the blade untill you get comfy with the fancy stuff. Last time I cut myself, twice in one day, while posting to BFC was pretty fun. I'm sure a couple people here remember that thread. Ended up getting dermabonded that day, much better than stitches kinda, oh yes fun times.
