Hey guys, I'm still trying to work out which knife will be my first Busse. Last week I asked for some opinions in the 4-6 inch range and came out with the Sar 6 being the Knife I would choose, if I had some disposable cash. However, I am completely satisfied with my RMD so it can wait.

That leads me to another point that was brought up in that thread, that Busse blades shine in the larger sizes. So in my research I found the NMSFNO. There isn't much literature that I can dig up on the net, and youtube has very few videos so I am asking for input here.

For an outdoor knife, how does it handle? It doesn't look to be as heavy as some of the other knifes in its size, so chopping might not be as proficient, although chopping isn't my main concern at all, I use a saw. It would be used to start fires, kitchen duty, general exploration, building shelters and anything else that would require a knife.

Is it more a combat knife? What would be in its size range that I may have passed over and should compare it to?

Thanks in advance for all your help. I'm not made of money and I want to get the best fitting knife for my use before I start hoarding them based on greed. I am itching to purchase a Busse so bad that it's hard to remain focused. Help me out.

My first Busse was a NMSFNO, it's a hell of a knife. For being .25" thick and with an 8" blade it balances very well and doesn't seem that heavy.

Here's what I've found by beating the piss out of mine:

Chopping- It can be done, and with practice it chops pretty well considering it doesn't have a fusion handle. However the "jibbling" in the scales caused heat spots (for me), so I sanded them out and got my scales smooth.

Cutting- It does very well, the CG is a flat grind that tapers into a slight V grind which can be converted to a convex edge very easily, with the convex it cuts very well, and it it's not completely sharp, it still glides through material. Plus, the large size makes it good for stubborn sweet potatoes.

Batoning- It does it, and it does it very well. I don't recall 1 piece of wood that I ever got hung up in with it, and I've batoned it in some nasty knotty stuff.

As for statring fires, it'll do fuzzy sticks easy and you can make a lot of kindleing and tinder with it, but with the nuclear meltdown spine you can't fling firesteel (could use the edge, but I've never been a fan of that). But, the NMSFNO is a knife that fits in a large Spec Ops sheath (with or without the pouch), and if you get the one with a pouc you can carry around a firesteel/magnesium starter and a striker.

Throwing- It throws surprisingly well. It just takes a little while to get used to the rear talon hole. But once you position your hand right, you're good to go.
Plus, when you strip a NMSFNO, usually there are no dimples, just nice smooth INFI

Other knives 8" or so.... Desert Storm Fighter, Fusion Steel Heart (7"), or you could wait until the Basic 8 comes out.

Oh, you're in the Busse forum. Saws? We don't need no sticking saws :D

NMSFNO would be a great choice. M67 know alot more about it than me, I dont have one. Heres a video of a NMSFNO in action.... looks like it can chop to me!

If you want some more options to make your decision harder... I do have a SarSquatch and DSF. Both would be good choices for a camp knife. The Sarsquatch has thinner stock but DSF has less blade height and it feels a little bit lighter . They both feel good in hand but I would give a slight edge to the Sarsquatch for chopping and batoning.

You would look for that video wouldn't you David? ;)

Not the best example of chopping, but it worked. And it definitely wasn't that sharp when I did that :o
