Need more info on the cutout under the clip

I'm confused (nothing new so far...) about the cutout on the locking bar under the clip. A friend of mine just got a new large standard Sebenza. This knife has the new clip, which I like very much btw. But I was surprised to find that there is this additional cutout on the outside of the locking bar under the clip. Since the new clip style is much wider than the old one, it seems there is no need for this cutout anymore.

Question now, is that cutout there to last, or will the design get changed back to the original version of the smooth locking bar? I personally prefer the smooth surface.

They have already gone back to the older style handle, but will use what they have left of the cutout type until they are gone. Last I heard both are being sent out now. You get what is sent to you or you would have to ask your dealer to hand pick the one you want or wait for it to come in.

Hope this helps

What is the actual function of the cut out.Is it there only to provide more space under the clip or does it have another purpose?
